ED MANNING

The Style Researcher presents the talented photographer Ed Manning with his editorial titled "Distinction". We also present an interview with him.

Hello, would you love to tell us about the beginning of your career?

My portrait photography journey was actually by happenstance. I’m actually a magician, and decided to purchased my first camera (a pretty low budget one) to recoded performance videos for social media.

Tell us about your first work.

I spent years upgrading cameras for better quality videos, but I never learned how to actually TAKE A PHOTO with them properly (laughs).

I was blessed to have met and been mentored by some amazing creatives who taught me the fundamentals- starting with street photography (which I still love), and then slowly transitioning to portraiture.

How did your work evolve in time?

I have a background in the arts -namely painting,/ sketching portraits and sculpting , so the transition was “destiny” I’d suppose.

In this specific editorial, what do you love the most?

I really like the air of poise and quiet confidence Oscar projects. He’s a confident guy in person, and it really shows through the lens.

Are there some other artists that you would love to work with?

Too many to name. I’m a student of the craft, and I admire so many people’s work. I draw creative energy from them constantly.

Have you ever been to Italy?

I’ve been to a lot of places, and I love to travel, so I’ll make my way to Italy eventually.

A personal question, what is your favorite country/city?

I’m Philadelphia born, so I have a heart for this area.

Love or fame?

The reality of Love will quench the need for “Fame”.

What is your relationship with fashion and what is your favorite style?

I pretty much like anything that looks good on me. I don’t really have a favorite.

Tell us a secret that you’re ready to share with our readers

Now it wouldn’t be a secret then, would it? (laughs)
